Windrush Class – Easter 2016
World Book Day 2016
A wonderful day was had by all on March 3rd at Burford Primary School. The children were encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and come to school ready to be in character. We had everyone from Harry Potter to Where’s Wally! Even the adults dressed up as characters such as Meg the Witch, Romeo and Juliet, Mr and Mrs Twit, Mary’s lost lamb, The Queen of Hearts and even Alice in Wonderland ( she was cooking our lunch!).
The children started the day with a brilliant ‘ hot seating’ session where they questioned the adults who were fully in character! This was lots of fun, especially when Mr & Mrs Twit started to argue! They then enjoyed our ‘stop drop and read anywhere’ time which is great for getting the youngest children in our school working and reading with the oldest.
A highlight of our day was meeting Jane Forey who is a local children’s author. She explained the process of getting a book published right from the story board stage up to the finished article.
The children really enjoyed their class visits to The Burford Library where they heard their teacher’s favourite stories. We were very pleased to find The BFG and Where’s Wally serving behind the counter!
World Book day is always a great day full of fun designed to highlight a love of books!
The Big Write – February 2016
On the first sunny day of the year, our talented school of writers set about planning their exciting stories based on a the mystery of the sleeping giant.
Each class completed a carousel of planning activities in the morning which included characterisation, setting descriptions and action planning. A particularly nice moment was having some of the schools top writers from Priory Class visit the younger writers in Windrush Class and hearing them do a fantastic job of sharing ideas and giving top tips for a great story.
Well done to everyone who put their all into their writing. It was also nice to see some children writing with comfy feet… slippers were the order of the day!
