At Burford Primary School, we recognise the importance of History to develop an understanding and respect of the world around us. We utilise historical learning opportunities to embed the school’s vision of Respect, Aspire, Achieve. We prioritise explicitly teaching skills which promoting positive well-being and developing children’s independence through managing enquiry.

Regular planned History lessons are taught in classes, with class teachers making links to other subjects in a broad topic-based approach, whilst ensuring the skills identified are covered within each year group. Some subjects will be taught as a whole mixed class, some may be taught in smaller groups or as year groups, depending on the content being covered. These are supported by opportunities for wider outdoor learning, both in our school grounds and vicinity, and on field trips to places further away.
